Finding out how to do hard things is usually useful.

Summer is shaping up quite nicely. During the day I go to work, which is at a desk looking at code, but sometimes it's on the porch looking at code with a nicer background.

And in the evenings I get to enjoy the outdoors and the water.

Last weekend I went to Lake Marion to visit Zack, Walter, Will, Levi, Chris, and Holden. We stayed at a campground called Santee Lakes. That's a weird name because it's on Lake Marion.

Lake Marion, I mean Santee Lakes.

It turns out you can drive your boat from the ocean near Charleston, all the way to the middle of South Carolina, which is what Chris did.

He said he had to go through some canals and locks to get there... what a beast.

This lake is actually man made. In 1941 they decided they needed some power and built a dam.

As a result, they submerged a lot of stuff, and a lot of it is still down there. Trees poke out every now and again.

These guys have a pretty cool nest.

A lot of napping occured on Saturday.

We hadn't seen each other since college (sad), but it was like we never left.

I don't know why, but I was surprised by how different and beautiful this place was.

I-95 goes right over Lake Marion, so now we can say that we've boated under a major highway.

Levi was by far the most enthusiastic about doing activities.

Him and I played mini golf, and hopped the fence to the campground next door to listen to some live music.

Everyone went on boat rides.

And we forged new ways to get to the boat.

It turned out to be a beautiful weekend.

I'm looking forward to many more of these.

It's in.
After a long journey from the marsh, through rehab, and a broken shroud, Lauren and I finally put this thing in the water.

After the first sail, it still has some issues that need to be addressed, but we're getting closer.

After the second sail, another piece of old metal snapped. This is bad news for the rest of the hardware, as it is likely in a similar state: ready to break.

Fortunately, parts are easy to find. This boat will be sailing regardless of how much it complains.
