Aloha
Will and I went to Hawaii March 12-20 2022.

Levi lives in Hawaii now. We stayed with him and Lauren at their apartment in Honolulu.

It's a 5 minute walk from their apartment to the beach. Not bad.

We hiked, biked, sat on the beach, and ate strange foods.

We rented a car from a guy Levi's brother found when he visited. The guy rents cars to people outside of the Turo app to avoid fees and taxes. It ended up saving us ~$350, but he did not pick us up from the airport when we agreed to meet and we found the car with no gas parked in the street with the keys on the ground next to the curb!

We hiked up Koko head, which used to be a volcano and used to have a train to get to the top.

According to Lauren the view from Koko head that day was only a 2/10.

We hiked to Ka'ena point, the westernmost point on Oahu.

This is where I got burned beyond repair.

Levi wore flip flops on this hike. About 1/8 of the way through, we lost the right flop. This was not a barefoot friendly hike, so Levi wore one of my socks to finish the job.

On the way back he found an abandoned hiking shoe held together with a wire. It lasted 4-5 steps before disintegrating.

After the hike to Ka'ena point, we sat on Mākaha beach and watched the surfers. I think I could sit and watch them surf (and boogie board!) without end.

We kayaked out to the Kaneohe Bay Sandbar.

While we were waiting for Acai bowls, Levi went into McDonalds to get fries and an iced coffee, but they wouldn't let him in without a shirt.

I really wanted to get a picture of the pineapples, so we stopped on the side of the road on the way to the north shore.

We almost ran out of gas on the way back from the north shore. On the uphills we were losing like 3 miles of gas every minute, so we had to go into neutral on the downhills, shut the windows to reduce drag, and turn the car off at red lights to make it. Sherrill was navigating us to the nearest gas station, and it turned out to be on a military base! When we rolled up, the entrance guards initially turned us away, but then we told them we actually wouldn't make it to another gas station. They made Levi put a shirt on, but ultimately let us go to the gas station which was 30 cents cheaper than off base!

We went to a sushi restaurant where the food came on trains.
We hiked up Diamond head because we're tourists and Levi endured it like a champion.

We got shave ice, and Will wore his Davidson Hawaiian shirt in Hawaii to support the Davidson basketball team during March madness.

We went surfing too.

A very fun and memorable trip, thanks Levi and Lauren.
