NYC → San Diego, CA
My time in NYC has come to an end.

I'm nostalgic about this already. Everyone should be required to live here for a year, like the draft, to truly become an American.

All of the cliched things people say about New York City are true.

I don't need to tell you what they are, you already know.

There's this monologue written by Baz Luhrmann in 1997 called "Everybody's Free to Wear Sunscreen" that I like to listen to sometimes. He addresses the class of 1997 and dispenses some advice.

By my estimation he gives some pretty solid advice.

I'm not saying I follow his advice (although I do floss).

But in one part of it he says "Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard."

"Live in Northern California once, leave before it makes you soft."
I'm moving to Southern California, but it's close enough.

It's been an absolute blessing to live with Willem for 6 years. We've spent more time together in one room than anyone else.

Mike and Will are moving/moved into the Amsterdam Ave apartment. I'm happy about this, because it's such a good spot. I'll be visiting soon.

Beaufort is so hot in the summer. The first couple days playing tennis in it was a shock.

Here are some videos of me and my dad playing.

Our dog Choo Choo passed away after almost 20 years on the earth. He lived a long and good life, and we miss him.

On July 28, 2022 my mom and I started the drive west from the farm in NC to San Diego.

I had never done a roadtrip west, and all I had to expect were romantic fantasies of what the adventure would be.
This is often different from the reality of what the adventure actually is.

New Orleans is unlike anywhere I've been. It's trashy, yet somehow charming.

Texas is big, and Austin seems to live up to the hype.

I must say, car is not my favorite mode of transportation. But it is a great way to get a feel for the country, and this was a good experience.

We made it to San Diego in 3.5 days. This was not enough time to soak it all in - 3.5 weeks seems more appropriate.

Now I'm in San Diego, and things are good.
